This week’s theme is COLOURFUL EXPRESSIONS / IDIOMS
Ok this one kinda threw me a little but it was a suggested topic for this weeks Tue 10 so lets see how I get on with this lol it took me a wee while to come up with this and I had to ask hubbt for some help as I am so used to saying things that I don’t realise. Now being Scottish there are definitely going to be a few ones in here that need a wee bit explaining so here goesm
1. “Haud yir wheesht”
Lovely wee Scottish one for you. Basically means shut up or be quiet. Literally hold your tongue. I used this one as well as shut up all day practically.
2. “ya numpty/dafty”
Ha I say this to Jack – I use it in the term or being silly by saying it doing something stupid.
3. “oh for fucks sake”
Yeah, this is probably my most colourful expression and usually said daily multiple times….
4. “Whit’s fur ye’ll no go by ye”
My papa used to say this a lot and I am firm believer in this wee phrase. Basically means that if something is meant to be then it will happen. Kinda like everything happens for a reason.
5. “awright fannybaws”
Ok not one I use a lot by this is how my friend PoPo and I would greet each other when we worked together or sometimes “awright my biatch” -not sure how best to describe this one then…. Will need to come back to that.
6. Happy as a pig in shit
7. All over
8. The balls in your court
Tennis anyone? Hehe I use this one a lot usually in an argument…
9. He doesn’t know his arse from his elbow
10. A Taste Of Your Own Medicine
When you are mistreated the same way you mistreat others.
What colourful expressions or idioms do you use?
