SO myself and the kids have made a deal to watch 31 spooky movies over the course of the month – with the exception of Tue and Wed nights – as we have swimming and beavers those days so a Tue and a Wed will be my days to watch something more ‘adult’ in terms of horror.
So for this week we have watched

1/10 The nightmare before Christmas
Tim Burton’s stop-motion animated feature finds Pumpkin King Jack Skellington thinking the grass is greener over in Santa Claus’s holiday. He marshals all his goblins and ghouls to take over Christmas, but alas–poor Jack belongs to Halloween. An amazing visual and musical feast that should be seen at least twice to catch all the kinks and quirks in the nooks and crannies. Now digitally restored and remastered with state of-the-art technology, The Nightmare Before Christmas is deeper, darker and more brilliant than ever–just as Tim Burton originally envisioned it.
2/10 Hocus Pocus
Three hundred years after they were sentenced to die in Salem, a trio of witches return to gain their revenge. Terrorising the town’s trick-or-treaters on Halloween, riding on vacuum cleaners instead of broomsticks, the only thing that can stop them is a black cat – in fact a boy who was turned into feline form on the day of the witches’ original execution.
From Disney and creative genius Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas) comes the hilarious and offbeat Frankenweenie, a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor hanesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life – with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous. Complete with electrifying bonus features, Frankenweenie is alive with enchanting fun for the whole family.
4/10 The Addams Family (animated 2019)
Get ready to snap your fingers! The first family of Halloween, The Addams Family, is back on the big screen in the first animated comedy about the kookiest family on the block. Funny, outlandish, and completely iconic, The Addams Family redefines what it means to be a good neighbour.
5/10 The Woman in Black
Based on the classic ghost story, The Woman In Black tells the tale of Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a lawyer who is forced to leave his young son and travel to a remote village to attend to the affairs of the recently deceased owner of Eel Marsh House.
Working alone in the old mansion, Kipps begins to uncover the town’s tragic and tortured secrets and his fears escalate when he discovers that local children have been disappearing under mysterious circumstances. When those closest to him become threatened by the vengeful woman in black, Kipps must find a way to break the cycle of terror.
6/10 Dawn of the Dead
Sarah Polley and Ving Rhames star as Ana and Kenneth, two of the last remaining people on earth after the human race has been decimated by flesh-eating zombies. The two find temporary shelter with a few other survivors in an abandoned shopping mall, but their situation becomes increasingly precarious as they run out of food and power and the dead start to break through their defences. They realise their only hope of survival is to escape to an island that remains zombie-free – but how can they possibly find a way to reach it?
7/10 Daddy I’m a Zombie
