arc

In a daring history that never was, pirates roam the skies instead of the seas. Fantastical airships sail the clouds on both sides of the law. Within these pages, you will find stories of pirates and their prey with a few more pragmatic airships thrown in. With stories ranging from Victorian skies to an alien invasion, there is something for everyone in these eighteen tales of derring-do!

MY REVIEW
This is a collection of 18 short stories with a whole host of airships, pirates and all other manor of weird and wonderful steampunk gadgets.
Now I am not really into the steampunk genre as I just really don’t understand it, but after reading this collection of stories I realise that I have been missing out an a pretty great genre.
It is hard to pick a favourite out of the collection but I really enjoyed the first story “Beneath the Brass” if I had not enjoyed that, I think I would have found it hard to continue with the rest. In this one we meet a woman who has been put in an asylum for daring to say her brother raped her. She is rescued with the rest of the asylum into the world of mechanical wonders. But turns out that her brother is after her. This was great story and a good one for me to read first.
Overall I enjoyed the whole collection and whilst I was a little worried that they would all be same I was very wrong as there is story for everything – airships, pirates and even aliens!

Fee, I’m one of the authors whose stories appear in Avast, Ye Airships! I’m glad you enjoyed the anthology so much you were willing to write a nice review. Even though you say you’re not really into steampunk, perhaps reading this book will change your mind about the genre. Maybe your review will inspire readers of your blog to check out steampunk literature for themselves.
